“The proliferation of Accountable Care models – an inside perspective into the black box of a shared savings contract”.

Dr. Oliver Gröne, Vice Chairman of the Board, OptiMedis AG

Abstract

ACOs bring together multiple providers and are held accountable for financial and quality outcomes for a defined population. Various countries are supporting reforms towards such models of care. As often, the evidence underpinning large health system reforms is mixed, due also to the fact that ACO models differ substantially in terms of size, scope and maturity (“If you have seen one ACO – you have seen one ACO!”). This presentation will take stock of the evidence so far and explore approaches towards evaluating ACOs. Despite the heterogeneity of ACOs, successful models appear to share some factors which will be discussed.
